Fed to Bury Us in Funny Money! by Mike Larson Dear Subscriber, Although Washington is already doing its dead-level best to present today's unemployment numbers in a favorable light, they are, in reality, an unmitigated catastrophe. You've probably already seen headlines declaring that the official unemployment rate dropped from 8.3% to 8.1% in August. But these headlines conceal three extremely disturbing facts: FIRST: The U.S. economy only created a pathetic 96,000 jobs in August. That was well below "whisper" forecasts for job creation in the 200,000 range, and we also saw the June and July numbers sliced by 41,000 jobs. SECOND: The number of new jobs being added per month is plunging! In July, the economy added 141,000 jobs — far fewer than expected. In August, only 96,000 jobs were added — 30% fewer than predicted. At that rate, I shudder to think how bad next month's report will be! AND THIRD, the labor force is shrinking at an ALARMING rate! The unemployment rate — the percentage of the labor force that is now unemployed — declined slightly ... NOT because people are finding jobs, but because Americans are leaving the labor force in droves. They're simply throwing up their hands and giving up hope of ever finding a job! Here's a shocking but under-reported fact that can put it all in perspective for you: Fewer Americans are now participating in the labor force than at any time since 1981! That's right, since 1981: 31 long years ago! Remember 1981? Ronald Reagan was president, Pac Man was gobbling quarters all over the U.S. and John Lennon's "Starting Over" topped the pop charts! Better brace yourself; here comes the Fed! Look, there can be little doubt this is bad news for the real world. It comes on the heels of lousy data out of Europe, awful news in Asia, and other disheartening reports here in the U.S. And then, there are the rapidly intensifying, gut-wrenching fears raised by the specter of the great fiscal cliff America is rushing towards. No wonder major multinational corporations like FedEx and Intel are dropping earnings bombs on Wall Street left and right! And I'm sure not talking about a few billion extra euros, pounds, and dollars being sprinkled like some kind of magical fairy dust on the economy ... And I have every reason to believe this monetary tsunami will wipe out the savings, investments and wealth of millions of Americans.
