Splenda®, also known as sucralose, is an artificial, chemical sweetener.

Despite advertisements stating "Made from Sugar, so it Tastes like Sugar", which attempt to confuse consumers, Splenda® is not natural and contains no elements of natural sugar.

You may also be surprised to learn that Splenda® contains chrlorine. Yes, the same chlorine that goes in swimming pools. And here's the worst side effect:

Just like chlorine kills off micro-organisms in swimming pools, Splenda® and sucralose kill off healthy bacteria that lives in your gut -- healthy bacteria that is VITALLY important to virtually every aspect of your health.

Recently, a study at the University of Duke confirmed this very finding. Not only is sucralose a heavily-processed, chemical artificial sweetener, but it's also damaging to your gut health, which goes on to affect every other aspect of your health.

Here's a direct quote from that study:

"Splenda® suppresses beneficial bacteria and directly affects the expression of the transporter P-gp and cytochrome P-450 isozymes that are known to interfere with the bioavailability of nutrients. Furthermore, these effects occur at Splenda® doses that contain sucralose levels that are approved by the FDA for use in the food supply."

Did you know that over 80% of your immune system finds it's home in your gut? In fact, there are more than 100 TRILLION living bacteria in your gut that control many aspects of your health, and due to things like the ingestion of artificial sweeteners like Splenda®, most folks have created a massive bacterial imbalance in their body.

But, it doesn't just stop with the use of Splenda® or other artificial sweeteners.  There are MANY other factors that are contributing to the bacterial imbalances that BILLIONS of folks are silently suffering from all around the world.

That's why my good friend and Registered Dietician, Brett Hall, has put together this simple "Is Your Belly TOXIC?" quiz to help you determine if YOUR gut is suffering from DANGEROUS levels of toxicity that are silently destroying your insides, your health, and your fatloss efforts to boot.

Further, when you take the quiz, Brett's also going to GIVE YOU a free copy of his brand new gut-cleansing eBook, The Top 10 Gut-Cleansing Foods, 100% FREE.

Did You Know...

... that calcium not only builds strong bones, but also helps you lose weight?
Calcium is truly a miracle mineral.  First, of course, it helps prevent osteoporosis, a disease that afflicts more than 40 million people in the United States alone.  But in addition, it also helps control high blood pressure, cardiovascular illness, and cholesterol levels, and it even lowers your risk of breast and colon cancers.  Finally, over a decade of research has also highlighted another coveted benefit—weight loss!

Calcium and Fat Loss

Researcher Angelo Tremblay and his team at Université Laval's Faculty of Medicine in Canada have been studying the link between calcium and weight loss for the last 10 years.  Their first study revealed that people with calcium-deficient diets had larger waistlines, more body fat and higher LDL (bad) cholesterol levels than those with moderate or high-calcium diets.  Their second study showed that people who decreased their calcium intake over a 6-year period gained weight, body fat, and girth. In 2007, Tremblay and team revealed the link between calcium and elevated heart disease among dieters.

Their 2009 study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition is the most exciting.  Results of this 15-week study indicate that increased calcium intake helps stimulate weight loss in calcium-deficient obese women.  Participants followed a low-fat diet and increased their calcium intake from 600mg a day to 1200mg a day (the control group was given a placebo pill).  The women who received the calcium supplements lost nearly 6kg of fat versus the control group, which lost a mere 1kg.

Researchers theorize that adequate calcium levels help suppress your appetite.  "Our hypothesis is that the brain can detect the lack of calcium and seeks to compensate by spurring food intake, which obviously works against the goals of any weight loss program," said Tremblay.  "Sufficient calcium intake seems to stifle the desire to eat more," he explained.

Alarmingly, over half of the overweight women who visit his clinic do not consume a sufficient amount of calcium!

Lead researcher Michael Zemel, author of The Calcium Key: The Revolutionary Diet Discovery That Will Help You Lose Weight Faster, explains that calcium helps inhibit the hormone calcitriol, which stimulates the production of fat cells.  By suppressing calcitriol, calcium helps the body whittle away fat cells so that you have a leaner, shapelier figure.  On the contrary, when you don't consume enough dairy you tell your body that it needs to store and make more fat! Ultimately, calcium helps you shed pounds because it helps to convert calories and fat to heat, instead of storing the pounds as excess fat reserves.  Zemel calculates that calcium may be able to increase weight loss by as much as 70%!

How to Increase Your Calcium Intake

The recommended daily allowance for males and females is 1000mg of calcium per day.  Women over 50 should aim for 1200mg per day.  Three servings of low-fat or fat-free dairy products should meet this requirement.

If you are lactose intolerant, you can either eat small quantities of calcium with other foods, or opt for lactose-reduced or lactose-free dairy options.  Dark green, leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach are also high in calcium, as are almonds, salmon, and sesame seeds.

How to Prevent Dangerous Toxins From
Clogging Your Sinuses

Discover How A Time-Tested Hospital Treatment for
Lung Patients May End Sinus Suffering for Millions

Over 40 million Americans silently suffer with sinus pressure, stuffy nose, difficult breathing, chronic throat clearing, sleep troubles, or the awful "head full of cotton."  Worse yet, for most of those who suffer from sinus trouble, the symptoms keep coming back over and over again.

The reason for this, it turns out, is that the real cause of sinus problems is not simply bacteria, as many doctors and researchers formerly believed.  A growing body of research shows that dried-up mucus packs brimming with toxins—including fungus—may be the real cause of your clogged nose, agonizing sinus pressure, and endless suffering.

The Mayo Clinic says 96% of sinus sufferers have FUNGUS in their nose!

Prior to this groundbreaking discovery, scientists believed fungus was involved in less than 10% of sinus cases.  Thanks to this Mayo Clinic study, scientists now understand that fungus is the likely culprit of problems in nearly all sinus sufferers.

This new understanding has helped integrative physicians identify powerhouse natural sinus solutions target fungus and bacteria in order to safely and effectively:
Relieve endless nasal congestion and clogged sinuses
Stop sinus draining and dripping mucus
Ease agonizing sinus pressure and that "heavy" face feeling
      Help you sleep soundly
      Prevent thick, morning mucus
Put an end to embarrassing bad breath or chronic throat clearing
Sinus Powerhouse #1: Nature's Mucus Dissolving Miracle

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) is a modified version of the sulfur-based amino acid cysteine.  NAC has traditionally been used in hospital settings to clear mucus in lung patients.  Now, studies show that NAC has the unique ability to detoxify and dissolve unhealthy, embedded mucus in your sinuses.  One study showed that it starts working in only 30 minutes!

A growing number of experts call NAC a "super nutrient."  It's used in natural medicine to help a variety of health problems, and it's also relied on by conventional doctors for its rare ability clear extra mucus in lung patients and for its ability to boost the liver's detoxifying power in critical situations.

NAC is so important you'd be hard pressed to find any leading hospital without ample supplies of it.  But it's only recently that NAC has been recognized as a potential miracle for sinus sufferers.

It all began when a team of Korean scientists did what nobody else has ever done—they got a close up look at misery-causing mucus, which is surprisingly difficult to do.  You can't analyze it while it's in the nose, and it's hard to get through tiny sinus openings to collect it.  Additionally, it's difficult to collect an adequate sample for scientific study.  That's why for decades only a few studies were ever done on mucus-dissolving solutions.

But the Korean team found a way to collect mucus from sinuses and nasal passages.  They used middle-ear fluid collectors to actually draw out the mucus from real patients.

They tested four different "mucolytic agents" (solvents known to break up mucus), directly on the thick mucus samples.  One of the compounds tested was NAC.

NAC worked with stunning speed—in just 30 minutes the scientists saw visible results.  In just one hour, the mucus was flowing easily—and the effect lasted for 4 hours.

When compared to untreated mucus, the NAC:
Improved mucus slipperiness by up to 45 percent for better flow
Reduced stickiness by up to 30%
In a fascinating human study, NAC was compared to a leading herbal sinus product used throughout Germany.  In this randomized, open-label study, a full 86.8% of sinus patients who took NAC reported they were "improved" or "cured."

NAC also improves lung health. Researchers looked at the results of nine different clinical trials with over 2,000 participants who took NAC over a 6-month period (the dosages ranged from 300 mg to 1,200 mg a day).  They concluded that NAC promoted lung health and even helped prevent lung episodes by 23%—in other words, easier, clearer, healthier breathing.

Sinus Powerhouse #2: Nasal Probiotics

NAC is even more powerful at clearing your sinuses when combined with probiotics.  A groundbreaking study shows that a certain combination of probiotics (healthy bacteria) can actually help what's happening in your nasal passages.  These "good flora" help your immune system to neutralize the "bad" bacteria that try to invade your nose.

Researchers reviewed 12 clinical trials on the use of probiotics for seasonally triggered sinus issues.  The results were phenomenal!  They concluded that:

"Probiotics dramatically reduced the symptoms and severity of seasonal runny noses due to sinus problems."

Working synergistically and delivered at research-level doses, NAC and nasal probiotics can melt the thick, toxic mucus that keeps you trapped in sinus misery, and neutralize the bad bacteria in your nasal ways.  In fact, this combination does what no other sinus treatment can—it stops recurring sinus trouble and keeps it from coming back.

The Hidden Danger of Antihistamines

Decongestants and antihistamines may dry up mucus and stop your nose from running.  But this drying effect is the exact opposite of what you need.

That's' because when your sinuses get too dry, it not only irritates your nasal passages, but it triggers your body to produce even more mucus.  And the extra mucus turns into the gunk that gets trapped in your sinuses (a.k.a., dried up mucus packs).  You wind up with even more congestion, and the nightmarish cycle repeats itself.

The truth is that your body needs healthy mucus. It moistens your sinuses and keeps them clean.  Healthy mucus allows soothing, warm air to flow easily through your nose and down to your lungs... like lubricating oil that keeps your respiratory system running.

Your immune system also depends on mucus to function.  Mucus helps trap and block out unhealthy particles—like bacteria, viruses, and even dust—all of which attempt to enter your nose on a daily basis.  In fact, 90% of unhealthy invaders enter your body through your nose.

Clearly, your body and your health suffer when antihistamines and decongestants dry up your healthy mucus.  In contrast, NAC doesn't dry up mucus. Instead, it turns sticky toxic mucus into healthy mucus and keeps it flowing normally.

How To Put An End To Ruthless, Debilitating Pain

There's nothing quite like sinus pain... the relentless throbbing in your face can be ruthless.  In fact, one Harvard study even said that sinus sufferers report the highest level of pain and lowest level of social functioning—as well as significant problems with work, energy and mental health.

But it doesn't need to be this way.  Click here to access a free video presentation that reveals how in as little as 30 minutes, the right combination of NAC and probiotics can bring lasting relief, no matter how long you have suffered with nasal congestion, agonizing sinus pressure, or awful dripping mucus.  Discover how to put an end to embarrassing throat clearing, poor sleep, and endless doctor visits!  You can get all the details you need right here, and end your pain permanently.

Knowing which fund to choose... and which to avoid... requires investors to really dig out the facts hidden beneath the hype.  Vanguard management isn't going to tell you the truth.  Like any company, it accentuates the positive... and buries the negative in a hole so deep it hopes you'll NEVER find it.

$50 Bill Pulled From Circulation
A certain corner of the market is seeing stocks "break out" at an average rate of 26 per day. To be regarded as a breakout, a stock must move by at least 100% in a single day. It's making many people rich, starting with just $50 upfront. The next time a $50 bill ends up in your hand, set it aside. You'll wish you had it after learning these details.

How to Corner the Tech Market (Again) by March 30
By LOUIS BASENESE, Chief Investment Strategist

If you caught my webinar on February 5 -How to Corner the Tech Market by March 30 - you'll recall that I named the single best technology investment for the next 60 days.

That company was touchscreen innovator, Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL).

Mission accomplished!

The stock is up over 50% since my prediction. In the meantime, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite have both fallen about 1% over the same period.

Forget about thanking me, though. The question now is: "Do we take profits or let them ride?"

Definitely the latter. Here's why...

Make Way for More Growth

Technically, Uni-Pixel is still a development stage company (i.e. - minimal sales and zero profits).

But in the company's conference call on Tuesday evening, management revealed that it's about to make the transition to a full-scale manufacturing and sales company. In a major way.

The executives expect revenue to catapult from a measly $76,200 in the last year to $5 million in the next quarter.

In case you don't have a calculator handy, that's a growth rate of 6,642%.

Keep in mind, we're already two months into the first quarter. So the Uni-Pixel team would have to be downright insane to provide such guidance unless they were supremely confident of hitting that figure (or higher) within the next 30 days. After all, Wall Street is all about underpromising and overdelivering.

Undoubtedly, that $5-million figure is impressive.

But guess what? Uni-Pixel isn't even anywhere close to exhausting its growth potential yet.

You see, $5-million figure is a pittance compared to the total market for touchscreens.

DisplaySearch pegs the current market size at about $13 billion - and expects it to more than double to $32 billion over the next five years.

So, clearly, there's much more room to grow for Uni-Pixel.

CEO Reed Killion confirmed as much when he stated on the conference call: "It's paramount that we scale capacity as quickly as possible to meet demand."

The company's actions back up his urgency, too. Uni-Pixel recently ordered two more roll-to-roll printing machines and two more plating machines. Each is capable of producing one million square feet of film per month.

You don't invest in equipment if there isn't enough demand to justify the expenditure. So why are companies increasingly anxious to work with Uni-Pixel?

Right Place... Right Time... Best Technology

Well, for a start, Uni-Pixel is operating in the sweet spot of a growing industry. Growth that industry insiders clearly underestimated, by the way.

In December 2012, for example, Bob O'Donnell, Vice President of market research firm, IDC, revealed, "Touchscreen PC sales have actually exceeded market expectations."

Around the same time, Lenovo's (LNVGY) North American President, Gerry Smith, confessed to CNET that the industry had miscalculated touchscreen demand.

But I assure you that Uni-Pixel's potential hinges on much more than the popularity of touchscreens.

It's also positioned at the right time... with the best technology, to boot.

The company's UniBoss technology boasts notable competitive advantages...

  • The copper mesh that Uni-Pixel uses costs significantly less than indium tin oxide.
  • In addition to lower material costs, the additive nature of Uni-Pixel's production process also reduces manufacturing costs.
  • UniBoss scales almost linearly to many sizes and form factors - from smartphones to large computer monitors.
  • On the performance side, UniBoss "offers higher touch response and sensitivity, superior touch distinction, better durability and lower power requirements," according to Killion.
Now, a superior product is all well and good. But as investors, we need additional insurance.

And that comes in the form of the patents that protect Uni-Pixel's technology. The company currently holds three patents, has filed 71 patent applications, and is in the process of completing another 20 or so applications.

That means a cash-rich industry giant can't simply reverse engineer the technology and put Uni-Pixel out of business. Plus, boasting that much intellectual property is a significant deterrent to new entrants in the marketplace.

Speaking of competition, none truly exists, which further explains why Uni-Pixel has been "inundated with customer requests," and is "knee-deep in discussions with multiple companies," according to Killion.

Two Big Announcements Are Coming

As I noted in our webinar, Uni-Pixel already announced a preferred pricing capacity license with a major PC maker. The announcement alone prompted an 82% rally in the share price.

Killion says the company expects to close another preferred pricing capacity license with an "ecosystem provider within the next four to six weeks, or sooner."

And Uni-Pixel is also set to secure a joint venture with a "world class manufacturer" in the second quarter.

Management remains coy about revealing the identities of these potential partners. But one analyst pressed Killion on the conference call about what types of companies would qualify as "ecosystem partners."

The CEO's response? Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Qualcomm (QCOM) or Foxconn "would equate to an ecosystem partner."

So we're talking about some of the biggest technology companies in the world potentially partnering with a $221-million market cap innovator. That doesn't happen unless the technology is legitimate.

Add it all up, and Uni-Pixel still represents the best way to corner the tech market for profits by March 30.

Remember, the announcement of the next capacity license agreement is forthcoming in the next four to six weeks, maybe sooner.

While I don't expect the announcement of the next deal to produce the exact same response as the first one, it's definitely going to move the stock noticeably higher.

Plus, it'll provide additional market validation for Uni-Pixel's disruptive technology.

Tune Out the Naysayers

Of course, the bashers on Seeking Alpha and elsewhere are bound to renew their efforts to discredit the company in the wake of these developments. But I think Uni-Pixel's plan of attack to rebut any such claims and "misinformation" is spot on: Ignore it and focus on putting up results, instead.

And please know that my bullishness isn't because I've followed Uni-Pixel longer than every other analyst (since early 2011). It rests squarely on the company's technology, its progress thus far and the opportunity ahead.

In fact, I'm not the only one who's convinced that the latest quarterly report points to much more profit ahead.

Following the call, the analysts over at Craig-Hallum and Williams raised their price targets to $31 and $40, respectively.

I think both are a tad conservative. But nevertheless, they imply another 30% to 70% upside to the current share price. So by all means, keep buying.

Ahead of the tape,

Louis Basenese

City Mysteriously Disappears From Map...
The Great Chicago Fire burned the city to the ground on Sunday, October 8, 1871. For all intents and purposes, it was gone from the map. Well, Chicago is burning again. Burning HOT, that is. Chicago is suddenly the only place where $50 can turn into a TON of money. It's the hottest market on Earth. Circle it on your map! In fact, Chicago could easily make your year, financially speaking. It all heats up again tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM EST, sharp... Here's how to prepare.

Why This Cooking Magazine Contains the Perfect Recipe for Tech Profits
By LOUIS BASENESE, Chief Investment Strategist

Okay... I'll sacrifice any semblance of manliness right now and confess that I read Cooking Light magazine.

Go ahead and chuckle all you want. Although it's actually my wife's subscription, I'm not ashamed to admit that I flip through it once in a while.

Especially since the latest issue contains one of the best recipes for profits in the technology sector.

Yes, you read that right.

A cooking magazine contains financial advice. And here's why you should follow it, too...

Halibut With a Side Order of Profits

While leafing through the latest issue, I spotted a small note at the top of a recipe for halibut with olive and bell pepper couscous. It instructed me to scan the picture with my phone to save the recipe.

However, the picture didn't contain one of those obtrusive QR codes (the squared-shaped barcodes), or any other unique identifier, for that matter. So what in the world was I supposed to scan?

Turns out that I first needed to download the Digimarc (DMRC) Discover app. That's when I stopped thinking about cooking and engaged my investing mind instead.

Back in May 2011, I met with Digimarc's CEO, Bruce Davis, at an investment conference. At the time, the company was just ramping up efforts to get the word out about its novel technology.

Technology that enables electronic devices to "see, hear and understand" their surroundings, as Davis put it.

So how does Digimarc go about accomplishing such a feat?

The Power of "Invisible Barcodes"

Basically, Digimarc's technology creates digital watermarks on media and other objects, including photographs, movies, music, television, personal identification documents, financial instruments, industrial parts and product packaging.

A wide range of computers, mobile phones and other digital devices can then detect and read the digital information contained in the watermark.

If you're familiar with the iPhone app Shazam, which can identify any song and artist when you record a few seconds with the phone, it's powered by Digimarc's technology.

In layman's terms, Digimarc's technology essentially creates "invisible barcodes."

And that's what Cooking Light wanted me to scan.

Another magazine in our house, Southern Living - the nation's seventh-largest monthly paid consumer magazine - is also using Digimarc's technology.

Okay, so what?

Well, as I've noted before, timing is crucial when it comes to unlocking maximum tech sector profits. We need to invest right before the tipping point of widespread adoption.

And the fact that this digital watermark technology is now appearing in various magazines suggests that it's gaining market traction.

But don't just take my anecdotal evidence as proof of this trend. The empirical evidence clearly suggests this, too. Consider...

  • In 2011, only 13 magazines implemented digital watermarking in 36 separate issues. By the end of 2012, though, 41 magazines featured digital watermarks in 269 separate issues - huge jumps of 215% and 615%, respectively.
  • In 2011, there were a total of 360 unique digital watermarks embedded in magazines. By 2012, the total number surged 486%, to 2,110 watermarks.
As Ed Knudson, Digimarc's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said, "The astonishing growth we've seen in the use of digital watermarking over the past year confirms that this is the print-to-mobile technology publishers have been waiting for."

I'll say! And it's translating into real results for Digimarc, too. In the last quarter, net income increased by 57%.

And there's still plenty of room for growth. Despite the impressive rise in use, digital watermarking in magazines has penetrated less than 3% of the addressable market in the United States.

In addition, digital watermarking technology is used in many other industries. And that opens up several other avenues for Digimarc...

Digital Diversity

For instance...

  • Digital watermarks are used to deter currency counterfeiting. About a dozen of the world's central banks rely on Digimarc's technology to protect against fraud.
  • Drivers' licenses and other identification documents use digital watermarking to add another layer of security. Computers and scanning devices can quickly decode the information and detect fake IDs.
  • Media giant Nielsen Company uses Digimarc's technologies to conduct its audience measurement across more than 95% of the television shows broadcast in the United States.
  • E-book piracy costs $3 billion a year. And Digimarc's recent acquisition of privately held Attributor Corporation opens up a new opportunity in this area, too.
The list goes on. But the point is clear: Digital watermarking technology is increasingly finding its way into sizeable markets. And as more companies employ Digimarc's technologies in particular, sales and earnings momentum should continue.

Speaking of which, the company will announce its fourth-quarter results after the bell on Thursday.

I expect a strong report - especially when you consider the company's fundamentals...

  • An international revenue stream, with roughly 37% of sales booked overseas.
  • A rock-solid balance sheet, with $30 million in cash.
  • Strong combined insider and institutional ownership of about 55%.
  • It pays a modest dividend (1.9% yield).
Not to mention, the company's technology is protected by a treasure trove of 1,200 patents and patent applications.

Add it all up, and even though I had to embarrass myself to prove it, digital watermarking and Digimarc represent the perfect recipe for tech sector profits.
