Subject: Is Your Hiatal Hernia Making You Take A Permanent Hiatus?

Hi Jorge.Saguinsin,
Acid reflux can be triggered from a number of things. In
order to help any condition, it is vital to know what the
cause of the problem is. Too often, especially in Western
medicine, the "cause and the effect" are mistaken for
the other.

That is why there is no such thing as a medical certainty.

Quite often a symptom or even a side effect of medication
can be mistaken for a medical condition. When this happens
there is no end to the repercussions of secondary symptoms
and so on.

I am sure you already agree it is of the most importance to
"educate your mind before medicating your body."

Too many people start off with one problem and by
mistreating the cause, they trigger a new problem. This
happens while treating an easy to heal problem like acid
reflux - all the time.

Eventually, recurring acid reflux can wear away the Lower
Esophageal Sphincter (LES), which in turn can lead to a
worsened condition called gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD).

GERD happens when corrosive stomach acids damage the
circular band of muscle around the bottom of the esophagus
(LES).

There is another problem if left unchecked, can also lead
to GERD; it is called Hiatal hernia. If you have
experienced a Hiatal hernia once, chances are you will
again, unless you address the real cause of it.

To help grasp the root of what triggers a Hiatal hernia
you, need to understand the function of your diaphragm.
This "sheet of muscle" extends across the bottom of
your ribcage, separating your chest from your abdomen.

Normally all your stomach parts are kept below your
diaphragm.

Your diaphragm functions to help you breath properly as
well. Proper posture allows your diaphragm to naturally
work in concert with your abdominal muscles and ribcage
muscles.

But, your diaphragm does more than help your breath; it
also serves to assist in the elimination of body wastes,
expel vomit and prevents acid reflux by pressing on your
esophagus and keeping it in place. So the diaphragm really
acts as the roof of your digestive area and the floor of
your ribcage, with the exception of a few openings for
plumbing purposes.

A Hiatal hernia can result from a tear or weakness in your
diaphragm. Usually, a Hiatal hernia develops when the pressure
below the diaphragm is increased, forcing part of your stomach
tissue to squeeze in, "above your diaphragm."  This happens
most often from a combination of undigested food in the
stomach, poor posture and lack of exercise.

Unfortunately, as we get older, and especially for an
individual who eats a lot of animal protein, the body lacks
the digestive juices and enzymes to break down the usual
foods. Contrary to what many people have been led to
believe, acid reflux is not caused from too much stomach
acid, but rather from too little.

This is a common cause of heartburn and Hiatal hernias.
Your ability to properly digest food matter depends on
healthy eating habits as well as digestive fluid
secretions, enzymes and hormones.

The digestive fluids are:

•    Saliva (oral salivary glands and parotid gland)
•    Hydrochloric acid (gastric)
•    Bicarbonate (pancreatic) - secreted into duodenum
•    Bile acids and bile salts (hepatic) - secreted into
duodenum

The digestive enzymes are:

•    Salivary amylase
•    Gastric pepsin
•    Pancreatic trypsin and chymotrypsin (into duodenum)
•    Pancreatic lipase and amylase (into duodenum).

The major digestive hormones are:

•    Gastrin (gastric)
•    GIP (gastric inhibitory protein)
•    Secretin (duodenal)
•    Cholecystokinin (duodenal)

So, once again we stand humbled before the great internal
design of our own body. The body does appear to have its
own inner intelligence and when you live in harmony with
it, you help your body function in a healthy manner.

But, when you are ignorance of the natural principles that
sustain it, you tend to work against our own best interest.

The result being either we are our own worst enemy, or our
own healer.

The western diet is totally blind to many of these natural
principles and sees the body as a chemical machine
separated from the environment for the most part.

On the other hand, the holistic perspective takes into
account a myriad of hidden interdependent connections that
can be encouraged and nurtured.

One way counts on chemicals, knives and even radiation to
manipulate and manage disease. While the natural path
counts on time-tested nutrients, trace minerals and
lifestyle adjustments to edify healing.

Sometimes, the cause is physical trauma or injury that
weakens the body's structure and balance, in which there
is a place for drugs and surgery (in the few cases).
However, the majority of the time, it is caused from the
wrong food combinations and years of poor posture and
lifestyle habits.

Bottom line: you are your own physician's assistant and
your body is the sick physician. Your body has a mysterious
way of self-regenerating and it simply needs you to
understand that it is possible to live without suffering.

Discover what you need to do to work with these natural
principles. Go into it yourself and grasp your own
understanding of how it works. Find out what causes good
health, because it is most likely the opposite of what
causes imbalance and suffering. Do you agree?

Only then you will experience what I refer to as "Genuine
care."
