Issue #2 - Protective Proteins In The Brain

Prevagen® is so effective in supporting cognitive function because it supplies the same mechanism the human body uses for brain cell function, which is called a calcium-binding protein. These proteins are designed to be protective by regulating the balance of calcium in the nervous system and help keep brain cells functioning properly throughout our lifespan.

Calcium
Did you know that calcium is the fifth most abundant element in the human body and is vital to brain health? Did you also know that 1% of the body's calcium is found in the nervous system? Although this 1% might not seem like a lot, it is vital for providing cell communication throughout the body. Calcium-binding proteins provide a delicate balance of calcium by neutralizing excess calcium that can damage cells.
Although calcium is vital for the brain to function properly, too much of it can lead to toxicity. If brain cells get more calcium than needed, the result can lead to cell death and contribute to faster aging or even disease. This is why the amount of calcium in the body must be highly regulated. As humans age, calcium levels can become unbalanced. It is the imbalance of calcium in older cells that contributes to the aging process and to cognitive decline.
Please note: Calcium and joint health supplements have no effect on the calcium in the nervous system. The 1% of calcium found in the body's nervous system is separate from the calcium found within our bones.

Watering a plant, a simple illustration:

Watering a plant
Most people are familiar with how to take care of a plant. One of the most important elements that keeps a plant alive is a consistent source of water; not too little and not too much! A plant uses water to operate every aspect of its anatomy. When a plant is watered, it can only survive if the water is free to drain from the soil. If the water does not have an exit, the plant will begin to drown; becoming unhealthy. Although water is the life-source of the plant, too much of it can cause it to drown.
Calcium acts the same way within the central nervous system of the human body. Every human needs calcium in order to survive and lead a normal, healthy life. But just like the water's relationship with the plant, the right amount of calcium is needed within a brain cell for proper function.

Most importantly, The Brain Health Guide will let you in on the secret to achieving better brain health and memory preservation — calcium. Not the calcium in your bones, but a different form of the mineral in your brain. Your nervous system needs calcium to communicate on a cellular level; but a build-up of calcium, which happens as we age, actually kills brain cells. Now a protective protein from a jellyfish has proven to protect the brain!
